Bhagsu Falls

Bhagsu Falls is a striking waterfall that is located in the village of Bhagsu, which is about 11 kms from the city of Dharamshala. The falls is on the road that connects Dharamshala and McLeodganj, and is a couple of kilometers from the town of McLeodganj. The falls stands at a height of 30 feet and is one of the main attractions during the monsoon season. It is located right behind the Bhagsunath temple. The temple is a great attraction to pilgrims, and most people who visit the Bhagsunath temple make it a point to pay a visit to the falls to enjoy the sheer beauty of the falls.

Water from the falls is quite chilly during most times of the year. It is only those who are able to withstand the cold that tend to take a dip or a swim, however you could get your feet wet sitting over the rocks along the stream that the falls creates. The streams are very small and form depending on the quantity of water. When there is not much rain, there is minimal water that trickles down the rocks.

Along the side of the falls are a number of eateries and food joints. The beauty of the Bhagsu falls could be enjoyed with a bite and a cup of hot beverage. Since the water from the falls is due to the rain and melting of snow in the nearby rivers, the water tends to be very clear. This is also one of the reasons that this falls is very attractive. Set on the backdrop of the hilly plains and beautiful greenery, the Bhagsu Falls is definitely an eye-catcher, and not many people would want to miss this natural sight. McLeodganj is a bustling market area where you could indulge in some shopping picking up some of the local specialties. After a busy shopping regime, the best way to rest those tired legs as get some peaceful moments away from the crowd would be to take a trip to the falls.

The other thing you could do is take a trek along the rocks to get a view of what is above the falls. Extreme caution needs to be adhered to while doing this trek since the rocks could get slippery and there have been cases of few accidents reported. The Bhagsu Falls is also the place where a number of Lamas tend to take a break. Good spot to strike a conversation with the Lamas and learn a few lessons of wisdom.

For people who want to stay in a place away from the busy market area, Bhagsunag, which is a place about 3 kms from McLeodganj, has a few hotels, and all of them offer good accommodation and food facilities. The rooms are pretty airy and also have good parking facilities. The area is also a wonderful home of Tibetan art and culture, which would be very evident from the sights you get to see, something to experience in a lifetime.
